Clarification of difference btw Islam and Islamism

Reader comment on item: Distinguishing between Islam and Islamism

Submitted by Mike Nelson (United States), Jan 19, 2015 at 13:37

Hi,

I am having trouble distinguishing the moral difference between Islam and Islamism. It seems to me that Islam provides the instructions, Islamism the action. Islam says kill the infidel, Islamism does it. If this is the case then neither Islam nor Islamism are peaceful or good and neither are compatible with life nor compatible with the West. Please help me understand.

Thank you.

I have written quite a bit on this. See http://www.danielpipes.org/topics/61/moderate-muslims for starters.
