Reader comment on item: Distinguishing between Islam and Islamism

Submitted by Rajeev (United States), Sep 3, 2010 at 01:03

Dear Dr Pipes:

There is no end to Islamists telling us that Islam is misunderstood. What good is a religion that is so difficult to understand?

If I get it right, Islam is misunderstood by non-muslims who criticize it all the time and it is misunderstood by muslims who fail to follow its message of universal peace. Why in the world is Islam so misunderstood. Perhaps Islamic theologicians should allow translation and reading (i.e. prayers) of the Islamic scriptures into other languages. Perhaps then all followers will understand it better. Also, they should encourage open discussion on Islamic principles. Discussions lead to understanding!
