Islamism is in the eye of the beholder

Reader comment on item: Distinguishing between Islam and Islamism

Submitted by Xion (United States), Aug 10, 2014 at 16:46

Religion is inseparable from its ideology. The distinction between the religion and its ideology is a veiled attempt on the part of Westerners to appear tolerant and not offend the majority of Muslims.

Was Muhammad an Islamist because he did and taught the same atrocities committed by modern Islamists? Muhammad was a terrorist who had people beheaded and murdered and tortured. He terrorized and robbed caravans. He declared religious war on the "People of the Book", i.e. Christians and Jews.

This is an ideological battle. You cannot fight an ideological battle with weapons of war. Rather than confronting the ideology of Islam on ideological grounds, the West chooses guns. Shooting a few terrorists won't solve the fundamental problem. Neither will coming up with new words for the undesirable aspects of Muhammad's life and teaching. This is part of the Western strategy of pretending the ideology of terror is peaceful in order to avoid confrontation and appear tolerant.
