in response to reader comment: islam not a religion of peace

Mohammad is no more responsible for Islam to-day than Jesus is for Christianity to-day. They're both grand monoliths of patriarchal authoritarianism. Human nature dictates and directs their actions including the mental workings that make them believe they have free and independent beliefs. They both grant men supremacy and for legions of little men that's good. They're not going to achieve anything all by themselves.

Modern jihadists ( Taliban supporting 'fanatics') are believers in nothing. Death is the destiny of most. The prize of being state authoritarian thugs free to kill, steal, pillage, rape and torture is not available. They can't win and muslims must acknowledge that in Afghanistan and all over the world they must be stopped. Many practicing muslim men are good people who love their wives and their daughters, not because of Islam but in spite of it. There is good in human nature and it lives in spite of the poisonous patriarchal religions and ideologies that seek to destroy it. (Mohammad took 11-13 wives, most of who were widows, and cared for them). Hatred and brutality to women is not Mohammad's philosophy. Respect for all for their humanity is the belief of all decent people –Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and Non Believers alike.

Muslims must speak up for peace and justice and respect for everybody. The Christian world has changed. The Christian world treats women with respect and women are an asset even if the western feminist movement is as bad as all patriarchal authoritarian movements. The west has bad fanatics in it but they are not in control.

Islam needs reformation. Patriarchy must be stopped. Fanaticism is bad and must be stopped.
