Fighting the unbeliever should also be immoral

Reader comment on item: Distinguishing between Islam and Islamism
in response to reader comment: Islam never hated other religions

Dear Dr Pipes:

Your reader Soumaya claimed that Islam did not fight Jews or Christians. Soumaya told us that Islam only fought unbelievers. Soumaya then described "...an unbeliever is someone who apparently does not believe in Allah/God/Lord...". Does it ever occur to Soumaya that Islam should not only not fight believers but also Islam should not fight unbelievers. Islam should not fight. Period. This argument has been repeated millions of times but it does not hurt to repeat again. If an unbeliever is a good person and does no harm to others, there is no reason to fight against them.

Soumaya should further understand is that Islam is a body of principles. Bodies of principles do not fight with any one. It is the people behind those bodies of principles fight or not fight. So when we talk about Islam fighting anyone, in reality, we are talking muslims fighting someone. Individual Muslims should certainly not be allowed to fight against anyone (believer or unbeliever).

When will people understand these simple things.
