Missing the point about Hijab

Reader comment on item: Assessing Obama's Cairo Speech
in response to reader comment: A few dumb things in Obama's speech

Dear Dr Pipes:

Many people miss the entire point about Hijab in Obama's speech. Obama said that if a muslim woman choses to wear a hijab, no one should stop her. What can be wrong with that? Any man, woman or child can wear a scarf just like any man, woman or child can color their hair blue. The key points are: 1) it should happen with choice and without coercion and 2) it should not infringe upon others' rights.

We need to discuss everything with absolute objective merit. If it comes with a choice, Hijab is ok because it poses no public security risk. But Niqab (that makes you unidentifiable), is a public security risk and is not ok even if it comes with a choice.

We can demand correct behavior from the opponent if we stick to unbiased objective facts. That is exactly what Obama did.
