Reader comment on item: America's Crash Course on Islam
in response to reader comment: Self-Education on Islamism

I was in the states on 9/11, having traveled only throughout my own country, Canada and Central America. I was pretty ignorant of Islam. As fate would have it, my job took me to Kuwait and Bahrain for three years, and now here in Lahore, Pakistan for the last two.

I've gotten an Islamic eye-opener right in the face these last five years, and for those people like Marci, who think Islamists will leave us alone if we only retreat like a turtle into our shell, they should venture out a bit and get a taste of what Islam really is, what its holy book says, what its clerics preach, and what Muslims practice.

The modern world has become smaller and brought us into each others' space and aware of each others' cultures and worlds, and Islam has been at this same crap for 1400 years (and we never knew it), whether it's been Islamicizing Arabia, Northern Africa, and the near east and central east...by the sword, mind you, to Spain and modern day Turkey and Persia (Iran). Europe is next on the list and we're (America) in their sights. They are only doing what they are ordered to do as Muslims.

Those nice, "moderate" and "peaceful" Muslims, many of whom are my good friends, simply do not practice their religion and are Muslim only by the stamp on their birth certificate.
