Reader comment on item: America's Crash Course on Islam

Submitted by Martin Schwartz (United States), Sep 11, 2007 at 20:27

The only critical POV I've ever had about Mr. Pipes comments is when he lumps all those to the left into one boat.

Yes...there is today's historically blind 'liberal' left....wishing that everyone, including radical Islamists would just sit around the campfire singing kumbiya, holding hands and attending group therapy to discuss the issues between us. But there is also the realistic left -- who does see the Bush administration as representing but a small class of wealthy individuals and not operating in the best interests of the overall U.S. body politic -- but who also see that radical Islamists are no less of a danger than totalitarianism and Nazism and must therefore be contained and stopped.

In short -- Mr. Pipes should stop lumping all of the left together. Instead, he should just describe as "silly" -- those blinded by the 60's, "just peace a chance" mantra at all costs -- when facing someone coming to kill them with a bomb. The "silly" left....as compared to the "realistic left".

Who are the "realistic left"? They are millions of 60's yuppies with families, kids and careers....who will still sing and act towards "give peace a chance" -- but only when the other side wants co-existence -- not world domination under the guise of religion and morality.
