Reader comment on item: Muslim Soldiers in the West, Criticized by their Communities
in response to reader comment: A real Muslim, a real American Soldier

I do hope that you have had a chance to check back for comments on your opinion here. I've been a Muslim since 1973, but I've seldom met anyone who shared my views and expressed them as eloquently and learnedly as you have.

I actually stumbled upon your writing while surfing the internet, trying to find a soldier to adopt. You see, I like to crochet, and some crochet websites give patterns for things like neck coolers and helmet liners for our troops. This leads to "care packages" and to corresponding with soldiers. That, of course, made me wonder if Muslim servicemen and servicewomen might not need a little extra support.

I have 5 grown children. One of my son-in-laws was stationed in Germany in the 90s, and I visited there. My son worked with an Army recruiter intensively, exploring the possibility of joining up, but he eventually decided not to. My cousin's son is serving in Afghanistan. My first helmet liner is for him.

My email address is: deborahmajzoub@hotmail.com

I hope that you respond to this. May Allah bless you and keep you safe.
