Personal Jihad Against JihadReader comment on item: Muslim Soldiers in the West, Criticized by their Communities Submitted by Noah Freitas (United States), Jan 12, 2007 at 13:46 I find it interesting when you say that "The war on terror is every single person's responsibility." This claim to an individual moral imperative to combat terror seems to bare an odd verisimilitude to "Radical Islamists'" transformation of jihad from a collective (state) duty to an individual duty--what Olivier Roy and others would term the new "sixth pillar" of Islam. If we buy the Bush Administration's rhetoric of "war on terror" than it actually wouldn't be an individual duty but a collective one. But perhaps what we have here is a clash--not of civilizations--but of fundamentalisms. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
