Reader comment on item: Muslim Soldiers in the West, Criticized by their Communities
in response to reader comment: I am a muslim soldier in US Army

Submitted by Michel C. Zala (United States), Jan 17, 2007 at 15:53

In a tragic way, you proove my point made in several posts, as to why "average Muslims" in the US are silent.

You'd encounter dismissal from one side and hatred from the other.

You deliver a compelling story, why you guys are finding yourselves in the position of Closet Muslims, afraid of coming out.

People like you further confirm me in my optimism of a silent majority of moderate Muslims living in this country, able to see themselves as Americans first and Muslims second. The way it should be.

With your balanced critique of both sides, not just the Judeo/Christians, you further demonstrate, what so many here deny all Muslims grosso modo - introspective.

Given your example - there is hence a way, to consolidate the (violent) teachings of Quran with modern day life in the 21st Century. So - one can be a Muslim, yet serve in the US Army and defend the freedom and liberty so many people have died for.

Thanks for your lone voice and the hope I felt, when reading your post. Keep your chin up and do not waiver from, what you feel is right for you. Many more are on your side (from both camps) than the tonality of this blog leads us to believe.

With respect.
