Reader comment on item: Hating Valentine's Day
in response to reader comment: valentines day

Submitted by Rehman Baig Mirza (India), Apr 1, 2007 at 09:40

I am writing in response to the comment posted by Miss Sushma. I still have not come to the conclusion if valentine is related to christianinty or not or whether the muslims should celebrate or not? But what i strongly believes is that valentine day celebration is a western culture and and muslim fellow should not celebrate this day, instead of following the westerners, make prophet Mohammed (pbup) your role model.

O.K sushma, after reading your article i came to conclusion that youre a girl who likes your man to tell you "I LOVE YOU" hundred times in a day, no matter if he loves you truly by heart or not :) in your article you have mentioned about shiv sena's work, being muslim i myself dont like this shiv sena but i really appreciate their work on banning valentines day, since it is not our indian culture.

you have rightly said that there is no harm in celebrating v day and also said to focus on other major problems in india. but dont you think that this has become one of the major problems taking india out of our tradition and culture. we Indian have been celebrating V day for the decades, now for the past only 2 years we have started celebrating halloween party,

The practice of polygamy has been increasing, particulary in film industry because they wanted to follow the hollywood actors, homosexuality has been increasing which is allowed in western countries, now the same sex marriage are alos allowed in western countries. I have been to many western countries U.S , U.K , Australia, Germany and believe me i have even know lot of people there who have sex with their own son or daughter, brother and sister. so dear Sushma may be there is no harm is celebrating V day, the thing is it is western culture. today we are celebrating V day, we are now celebrating halloween day, and what tomorrow...Think about it is the duty of one indian to protect the national culture and tradition.
