Not holding my breath

Reader comment on item: Hating Valentine's Day
in response to reader comment: "Some examples why Islam is not a perfect way of life"

Your post is obviously well researched, and factual. I look forward to all the good Muslims out there debunking it. I shall not however hold my breath. About the only defence they could possibly make is the hoary old statement that unless you have read the Qu'ran in the original Arabic, you cannot understood the true meaning.

I also note the many references in your examples to sexual 'deviancy' among male Muslims. The very point they are always trying to shove down our throats as pointing towards decadence and pleasure seeking in the western world. Multiple marriage (a man having up to four wives) may once have had a realistic meaning in an age where Muslim men were dying by the thousands, while 'peacefully' spreading the word of Islam, but that no longer applies in any way.

On a lighter note, a Muslim friend (married to an American lady) once told me tongue in cheek, that two wives was bad, because you got nagged in stereo. Four was worse, because they would gang up on you. Three was a good number, because they would be too busy fighting each other to bother you. Sadly he finished that unfortunately his lady wife would not allow that. He could not understand why. He also told me quite seriously, that when the time came to hand his business over to his sons. He was going to live in the states. The reason? He would not allow any Muslim to get his hands on his daughter. Either not a true Muslim, or paradoxically perhaps a very true one indeed.

Incidentally, the prophet did say that a man was entitled to up to four wives, providing he could treat them all exactly equally, and that, if Muslims think about it, is a factual impossibility
