What is the point?

Reader comment on item: Hating Valentine's Day

Submitted by Dagmar (United States), Feb 19, 2004 at 16:34

I am not Christian, and I think that anyone to whom the "holiday" does not pertain to has no need to celebrate it. Why should we care if our fellow men in the Middle East celebrate a commercialised and over-rated consumption based holiday. What are Christians going to do? Send missionaries to corrupt a religion to know the "joys" of a Hall-mark Holiday? Are they going to condemn us Jews for not celebrating CHristmas next? Think about it. What is the point. Not that governments want to ban a useless holiday, but that Christians feel that their holiday has enough merit to be celebrated by all, regardless of anyone elses beliefs.
