Reader comment on item: Hating Valentine's Day
in response to reader comment: Boycott of Valentine's Day in Muslim countries

Submitted by Kalsoom (Pakistan), Feb 13, 2006 at 11:40

Muslims do not oppose VD only because it is a celebration of west. Religious christens do not like this too (*). Its a tradition of pagans of old Romans in which they were used to celebrate a lottery of young men and women. The drew names of girls and boys from the drop box of festival to make them couples till next festival. Means temporary couples. So I do not think that Muslim societies need this to celebrate. In a Muslim society Allah has given a proper reward to a female to spend her life with her legal husband with a security of home, family and future. Moreover, no man has the right to express his love of kind of thing standing on road. Muslim girls and boys are not street people, actually. Muslim girls are not made to satisfy the wrong thinking of men.

Secondly, it is right that Mullahs do not do boycotts of many things. But the point is, everyone has to be present in front of Allah for his own deeds. Islam is the responsibility of all Muslims and if Mullahs are not doing anything right, it can not be generalized. Islam's education is open for all. Its about to spend a little time of your day to study a religion.
