Bush picked the right term in terms of immediate mass recognition.

Islamic fascists is a good term because it elicits an immediate recognition of behaviour identified with fascism. It is the best sound bite because fascism is considered to be a dangerous violent movement that listens to no reason.

Islamist lacks punch because you have to think about "what does he mean, what is he saying? Although not completely accurate Bush picked the right term in terms of immediate mass recognition.
