Some parallels of historical fascism and islamicism

Reader comment on item: "At War with Islamic Fascists"

Submitted by Jack Goldberg (United States), Aug 14, 2006 at 14:43

Consider the following shared characteristics:

Dehumanizing a people and attributing blame for all ills.

Use of hysterical speeches to inflame the adherents.

Imbuing fear about punishment for any unauthorized activity, with pervasive surveillance to enforce the fear.

Insisting on total loyalty to the group's leaders and objectives.

Placing women in a special category: the bearer of the future superior population, subject to severe restrictions

Use of a pseudo-religion or an extreme version of an existing religion to validate policy.

-- These are clearly documented. I am old enough so that the parallels are vivid in my memory.
