Professors -- Noam Chomsky

Reader comment on item: Profs Who Hate America

Submitted by Nathaniel Warshay (United States), Nov 12, 2002 at 13:49

The professors are right that the US is interested in free access to Iraqi oil. Like it or not, this is how the world works and has worked forever. If a weaker country has what a stronger country wants (resources, land, access), then good luck in the end-of-conflict negotiations.

But it's not all about that. Bush Jr wants to avenge the assassination attempt on Bush Sr., and complete his unfinished business. Our success will garner a tremendous amount of support from the Arab world. By doing nothing, we are failing.

And one note on Chomsky. I remember in 1988 when he visited Israel. Good friend to the Arabs. He was mugged in Jerusalem.
