Simplistic "Scholars"Reader comment on item: Profs Who Hate America Submitted by Gary Cantor (Japan), Nov 12, 2002 at 18:14 More than anything else, the anti-American views that are discussed in this article are alarming because of their simplicity. One would expect faculty members at respected universities to use reason in order to develop their views of the world. However, after reading this article it becomes quite apparent that, at least with some "scholars," political opinions are formed on the basis of emotion and prejudice rather than disciplined thinking.Students are often criticized for expressing ideas that are "shallow" or "not thought out." Instructors should be, and indeed must be, subject to the same type of criticism. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
