Super comment, Yuval, the one at http://www.danielpipes.org/comments/26746. I'll try to find your writings on the subject, if they are available. Could you give me an idea where to find them?

I've long thought that the main attraction of Islam to men who convert to it willingly, mainly from Christianity, is its total dominion over women. No other religion in the world affords a man and enshrines in law such superiority over and control of womenfolk, especially to men dissatisfied with women's freedom in the West. By the same token, women who convert to Islam, when not doing it for opportunistic reasons, such as a marriage to a Muslim, seem to crave the structure, the certainties and support women in Islam know they can count on if in the care of a man, father or husband. One girl I knew once asked me, "What's so bad being taken care of by a man??"

Both Judaism and Christianity have their own historical gender problems, but nothing compared to Islam.
Control of women seems to me to be the central issue in Islam, with the twin issue, control of the infidel, a second.
