Reader comment on item: Arabian Sex Tourism

Submitted by Morris (Israel), Oct 9, 2005 at 10:30

1. In Cairo there is a quarter named Hayy al-Hawamidiyya. 95% of the girls there get "married" every summer to men from the gulf for periods between week to 2 months. The families get some $200 per girl, on which they live for a whole year. Usually the men don't even bother to divorce the girls, so they get "khul'" (one-sided divorce). During the year the girls are "sown" so they can be sold again as virgins (like the hoories in Paradise...). If the girl gets pregnant her mother will take care of the baby during the next summer, so she can have another one... They call it Zawaj al-Misyar.

2. There are rumors that many Israeli Arabs have wives in North Africa, in addition to their Israeli Arab wives. They usually go in groups to "a tour in France" for a month, leaving their wives in Israel. From France they fly to North Africa to spend the month with their local wives. Many in Israel talk about this, and it seems that the wives who stay behind are sattisfied: they have a month of vacation from their husbands. They only hope that their husbands don't bring back "gifts" from the North African women...

3. I have the feeling that men in the gulf consider other Islamic peoples - Egyptians, Indians etc. - as inferior, and this allows them to treat those girls in such a way. I assume that they will never have such a Zawaj with girls from the gulf. Their attitude to foreign workers (women) stems from the same view to other peoples. Am I right?
