Muslim History is Not Islam

in response to reader comment: Reinvoking the "this is not true Islam" argument

Submitted by Moin Ahmed (Bangladesh), Aug 25, 2014 at 06:41

Muslim history is NOT Islam per se. Unlike Christianity or Hinduism, it is possible to be critical of Muslim history and behaviour from Islamic perspective. The epicentre of Christianity is Jesus - which (unfortunately) is a mysteria. On the other hand, the epicentre of Islam is Quran - which can equip us with guidelines to critically judge matters, including judging the Muslim history - even Muslim theological historical developments. Mind it, there are two separate adjectives available to us - Muslim and Islamic. But in Christianiy there is only one - Christian. The bottom line?

This is the answer: a powerful Islamic critique of Muslim history and behaviour is possible. Moderate, balanced and thinking Muslims must stand up to do this castigating crtitique. This is the only way to eliminate the bad elements and fanatics among us. No one is denying that bad things did not happen in Muslim history. But no sir, pointing finger at Islam because some Arabs go out elsewhere for sex tours is simply wrong.
