Indians Reform India, Not Outsiders

Reader comment on item: Arabian Sex Tourism

Mr. Abbas, thank you for highlighting a most reprehensible tradition in India. We continue to fight it tooth and nail. For your information, this one of offering daughters to the Goddess Yallama near Belgaum in Karnataka, is not prevalent among (like Gary pointed out in another context, elsewhere) the middle class or rich Indians, but lower down the scale. Mostly for the same reason that Hyderabadi Muslims give away their daughters to the Arab blue collar workers who frequent the lanes of the city for easy sex. Tell us what you are doing about it, since you are in the field of child prostitution. The Yellama phenomenon happens in only in one obscure pocket in a vast country like India. This is where the Dakkhani Muslims ruled, like Ali Adil Shah and his clan for centuries, until British takeover.

Westerners came to know about it from the untiring efforts and reporting of Indian social workers and especially Indian feminists. Indian post-colonial scholars, historians and anthropologists have written much in International forums about the practice, including how a little tradition was converted into a commercial racket during British Victorian colonial rule. India, in cohorts with important international agencies of late, including the UNICEF and USAID are doing much in the region to bring about positive changes from the ground up, including education of the girl child and women's welfare and development projects. It is not just an exotic practice nurtured to attract sex tourism!!!

Even then, why are the brothels in most cities located near Muslim ghettos, and a disproportionate majority of pimps and their victims from the Muslim population, is not fully understood. At a conservative estimate, this is above 65-70%, and the statistics of violent crime in urban India indicate an even higher Muslim representation, as a part of gangland and individual activity, say, above 80%.

Yes, Indians have held their society accountable for bizarre practices like commercial sex trade especially among minors, not mentioning the Swedish and European pedophilia and pornography rings stalking the street children in its metropolises and in Goa. Several of these Europeans are presently in Indian custody, having been extradited to India. Young East European women spies are also common in power centres as a part of the broad international trend.

Lastly, one does read about the experiences of abused children especially on the web, in thriving Satanist cults in middle America, which is not mainstream Christianity by any chance. If you were to use those events to tar all Americans or Christianity per se, you would be run out of business with laughter and contempt for your foolishness.

I would request you not to score propaganda points over serious human tragedies. The Hyderabad issue is important simply because there is no resistence to these Arabs, and because the kazis are openly involved in the racket, it becomes a matter of Muslim law where outsiders cannot intervene because of appeasement. Will you be kind enough to create awareness about this decades-old practice among your Ummah, so as to put a stop to it?

I will not be around to reply you in the next many days, since I am travelling to the earthquake-affected zone to help in the relief work. Thank you.
