And I still think that there is a good case for "your" Makkah not being in the Hejaz. Your Koran calls it "the mother of cities" (with the "Ancient House") and a place of springs. That doesn't fit: no-one had heard of Makkah before the tale of Islam, and there is nothing (natural) there anyone would call "springs".

It becomes worse if you search for descriptions of Makkah in the Hadith/Sira: there were supposed to be a stream flowing in the middle of the city, and walls, and trees, grass, clay, loam, big stones around the haram, a "rugged path among canyons" leading to the city, two "thaniya" (one low and one high), an upper and lower side of the city. The cave (mount) of Hira was supposed to be on the upper part of Mekkah. We should have found loads of trebuchet stones in the city area. Nothing fits. Read and ponder, Guardian
