Reader comment on item: Offer: $1 million for Finding "Jerusalem" in the Koran
in response to reader comment: "Jerusalem's not there and never was Muhammad"

When this Surah was revealed ~621 AD, the Sacred Mosque already existed in Mecca, but where was "the farthest mosque?" It was apparently identified with places inside Arabia; either Medina, or a town called Ji'rana, about ten miles from Mecca, which Muhammad visited in 630 AD.

Palestine had not yet been conquered by Muslim armies, and contained not a single mosque

In Islam all the places for worship God from Adam till these days are Mosque . there is nothing called church(which by the way is invented many years after Juses ) nor temple in Judisam they have been called Mosque.
Also when this happen ( Isara) , at that time , there was not any Mosque have been built , the first Mosque was built after MIRAJ by 5-7years in Maddina.

the correct name for Solmon temple is Soloman Mosque.
