AL-AQSA / PALESTINE IN THE QURAN

Reader comment on item: Offer: $1 million for Finding "Jerusalem" in the Koran
in response to reader comment: The Al-aqsa mosque mentioned in the Quran could not be in Jerusalem...

Submitted by ADAM (Canada), Apr 4, 2007 at 18:46

AL-AQSA - It was the second mosque built by PROPHET ABRAHAM, peace be upon him, after he had built the Kaabah. Al Aqsa means "the farthest" and it was named so because it is far away from Mecca and it was the destination of Mohammed's Al Isra'a journey.

Glory to (Allah) Who did take His Servant for a Journey by night
from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque,
whose precincts We did bless,
- in order that We might show him some of Our Signs:
for He is the One Who heareth and seeth (all things). [Qur'an 17:1]
