Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!

Reader comment on item: Offer: $1 million for Finding "Jerusalem" in the Koran

This all reminds me of a scene from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" in which a peasant berates King Arthur for claiming to be king of the Britains ("King of the who?" asks a peasant woman) because he was given the magic sword Excalibur by the Lady of the Lake.

What does it matter if it's mentioned in the Koran or not, or how many times it's mentioned in the Torah? This is the 21st century! Thousand year old books with fantastic stories are all well and good (I love reading the Torah - yesterday's parshah offered me more detail on the value in gold shekels of a burnt offering than I ever could have wondered), but the sovereignty of a city or a nation should be determined by laws, by reason, and by the democratic will of it's inhabitants, not by divine word of Yaweh, Allah, or whatever else it's called.
