Your words are now a cliche

Reader comment on item: Americans Wake Up to Islamism

Submitted by Jason P (United States), Sep 13, 2010 at 11:23

Your famous formula--"radical Islam is the problem and moderate Islam is the solution"--is now a cliche. Everyday I see the phrase radical Islam used in newspapers and television. It is common place to distinguish between the radical and moderate.

The sole result of this triumph is the practice of radicals hiding behind the moderate label. Any Muslim who says they are moderate is accepted on face value alone. Those who refer to our enemies in foreign nations always use the "radical" modifier. You change our language.

You won; but it is a pyrrhic victory. While you never fall for the phony moderates, ignorant American talking heads can't get enouch of them. Radicals are taking over and using the moderate label as a shield.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Yes, the Islamists do hide as moderates and many fall for the act. But that does not mean that the solution lies in seeing all Muslims as the same.
