Reader comment on item: On Being Borked

Dr. Pipes:

Congratulations on your courage, strength and moral purpose in the continuing fight against worldwide terror.

As Ehud Barak's historic attempt to create a Palestinian state was a catalyst in opening up many eyes to the truth behind terrorists' smokescreens, so too has your nomination opened the door for Americans to see how some U.S. senators make their decisions.

The senators who spoke out against your nomination could not have read your original work; if they did, then I question their ability to understand what they read.

Instead, they relied on the characterization of your work by those who are more concerned about their position as a so-called "advocacy group for Muslims," than by protecting this country in a time of war.

If these senators could act in such an unseemly manner for an appointment that carries such little overall weight in the scheme of policy-making, what would they do when real power was involved?! I shudder to think.

You have taught many of us great lessons: to approach these issues intelligently, meticulously, and patiently, looking at all the facts, not just those that advance one's emotional pull.

Thank you and all the best for an interesting tenure on the Committee.

G.S.
