NO Surprise

The name of this article is apt, as the Islamists and their go alongs are doing what islamists in their native countries have always done -- not tolerate any view other than theirs, to the extent of declaring fatwas against them. The article also demonstrates their aping of American politics and smear tatics a la Bork, a text book example of this and the real crux of the islamist base of conflict where it exists.The great error is to think Iraqis and others want an open,tolerant society on the western model; that is the illusion of our time. They want what they have -- the history of strong leaders from Attaturk to present day mid east countries. That is why they accept them just as some in Russia still yearn for the iron hand of Stalin
