Dear Mr. Pipes;

I can well imagine that enduring the political chastisement that unforturnately goes with an administration appointment to almost any position is a bruising and dismaying experience. I am happy that both you and President Bush withstood the pressure, and that your appointment to the Institute of Peace has come to pass.

Congratulations on this appointment. I am sure you will bring reason and clarity to the Institute's recommendations, both in short supply in many official circles.
