Heartburn for AllReader comment on item: Bush on Israel: Heartburn for All Submitted by Menahem Dunsky (United States), Jun 5, 2003 at 06:16 Bush is a conundrum wrapped in a puzzle. As you correctly point out he is frequently ambivalent about Israel and the Arabs. In most other respects I admire the man.In the case of the "Road Map"I too am ambivalent. Mostly I think that it is a map that leads (like Oslo) to nowhere. But sometimes I allow myself a tiny glimmer of hope: Bush is most definitely not Clinton. He usually means what he says, and does what he says (witness Iraq). As well the Arabs are ever so slowly changing - an as yet tiny minority of young Arabs (in Jordan and the Gulf Sheikdoms) - have become Americanized and are not as hostile to Israel as most of their fellow Arabs are. Am I naive? Is it naive to allow oneself to hope? Or am I in for some heartburn... Would welcome comments from all.
