"A Sop to Outside Pressure"Reader comment on item: Bush on Israel: Heartburn for All Submitted by Bill Hadney (United States), Mar 4, 2003 at 14:31 I firmly believe that Arafat, his friends and successors, will do whatever it takes to prevent establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel. As everyone knows, they want a Palestinian state in place of Israel. That situation makes Bush's plans, the "roadmap", and a Palestinian state irrelevant for the foreseeable future, so whether he says "this" and does "that" is just one man expressing his practical views of the complex and ever-changing modalities of that situation. I can understand that behavior, and have no problem with it for the time being. Bush clearly has bigger fish to fry right now, and Israel has proven itself equal to any task Arafat can send its way.
