All to allow Bush to have his war.

Reader comment on item: Bush on Israel: Heartburn for All

Submitted by Stuart Weiss (United States), Mar 4, 2003 at 12:20

Just as Bush has established clear goals and has taken the necessary political and rhetorical steps to accomplish them in a careful balancing act, Sharon, too, has vocally suppported the "road map" while acting generally in accord with Israel's security needs.

So, too, the Israeli hawks have attacked Sharon for taking his pro-state position publicly. But at the same time, Sharon has been systematically undermining the Palestinian leadership.

Both Bush and Sharon have been conducting balancing acts to keep all sides at bay while doing what they feel needs to be done. Bush needs to get rid of Saddam, and Sharon needs to help Bush by not riling the Arabs by overtly rejecting a future Palestinian state. They both are playing a political game but are sticking to their principles in their deeds.

At least, I pray that is the case.
