Skydiver in freefall

I just wondered if Skydiver was in freefall when he scribbled that interesting scrap of a thought...

What exactly does Skydiver mean? Is he comparing Islamic Jihadi terror to the origins of the second world war? Perhaps the jetstream on his jump to terra firma addled his thinking.

Curiously, I would like to know what corollary Skydiver draws between the end of WW2 and the renouncement of Iranian and Syrian backed terror. As I see it, both Germany and Japan are successful first world countries with solid economies and open societies.

Is he fearful that Iran and Syria will become like them? Does Skydiver intimate that this is a faulted model?

What DID happen to Germany and Japan Skydiver that Iran and Syrian should be wary of?? Can you elucidate?...
