Lebanese Humanitarian Crisis

Dear Dr. Pipes:

The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon is self inflicted. The world blames the nation of Israel and demands that all military operations cease. Let's step back and look at the progression of events. Over the years Israel has prepared its citizens for conflict by providing gas masks, even for infants, and bomb shelters for citizens. These efforts by Israel, at great cost to the economy, have saved the lives of her citizens and prevented hundreds, if not thousands of injuries.

Lebanon, on the other hand, allows terrorists to fire a thousand rockets into Israel and has made no preparations whatsoever for the expected response of a nation under attack. Now, as usual, Israel is labeled the aggressor for responding to terrorists. Lebanese government officials should be arrested, put on trial, and held to account for allowing citizens of their nation to launch an attack on a sovereign nation while making no preparation for its citizens before hand.

If thousands of rockets are being stored throughout your nation common sense tells one that they will possibly be fired and cause conflict. Where is the outcry from other nations and the United Nations against Lebanese officials? Israel is to be commended and her leaders should be given Humanitarian Awards for the preparations they have made over the years to protect its citizens, its most prized possession. This speaks volumes of the difference both nations place on the safety of their citizenry.
