Losing the propaganda war

Reader comment on item: Arabs Disavow Hizbullah

Dr Pipes,

I have little faith in a genuine overall change of direction in the Middle East - Israel will still be regarded as a military and socio political disaster by the Arabs. When the present crisis grows old they will return to subversive activities. Every Jew killed is a successful operation no matter how many Arabs have to die to achieve that goal, or what means are employed, or the condition of the victim (i.e. whether they're a soldier, a child, a pregnant woman or a cripple). Arabs maintain the illusion of grievance as surely as they maintain the illusion of their own philosophy being the oldest of the world's major monotheistic religions (when it's probably the youngest). They are the victims of global conspiracy, militant zionism and western capitalist imperialism - no matter how many people they kill or by what means their closed off tautological philosophy means such things are always justified.

What astounds me is that at this very moment our great enemies the wahabists are initiating a stronger defence of Democracy and our own interests than our media or our politicians are. This is of course only in aid of their own strategic regional interests. In Australia the focus is purely on the Lebanese Muslim children victims of the "disproportionate" Israeli response. Media outlets were even trawling through the wreckage of Southern Lebanon with UN observers asking "Is this a war crime?". This calls for speculation whether in fact the recent Israeli bombing of the UN Observer post by the Israelis was a legitimate military target - given the UN and other agencies seem intent to disseminate propaganda on behalf of their countries arch enemies.

Whilst the west and Israel grapple with the impossible task of trying to fight a moral war against Islamism we suffer the slings and arrows of our own moon calf liberally biased media. The prognosis is victory for the Islamists unless there is victory over the left.

Cordially,

Reuben Horne.
