Reader comment on item: Arabs Disavow Hizbullah

Submitted by Norberto R. Mèndez (Argentina), Jul 27, 2006 at 18:24

Dr. Daniel Pipes:

"your" Arabs are US Arab allies, absolutely condemned by the Arab people the world over. Do you remember famous phrase by President Roosevelt concerning Latin American dictator Anastasio Somoza? "I know he is a son of bitch....but he is OUR son of a bitch." The same case. The Arabs you mention are US's sons of bitches, no more than that and this is crystal clear for us, ThirdWorlders.

Incidentally, I have just returned from a huge demonstration of the Argentine Arab community, united hand in hand with nationalist, populist and leftist parties of non-Arab origin, to show their awe against the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires. I talked to several of the Lebanese-Argentine participants, most of them are Maronite or Orthodox as you may know, and the common cheers were "Down with the genocide State of Israel", "Bush, Sharon, terrorist assassins, Long Live the struggle of the Palestinian people", "Long Live to the Palestinian Lebanese peoples" and of course "Hizbullah!" "Hizbullah!".

Hizbullah is no more a Shiite resistance group but directly a representative of Lebanese nationalism. This is the great success of Hizbullah, they have become martyrs of Lebanon independence. Nobody follows any sectarian lines, specially in the diaspora. Why? Ask the Israeli government and its suicidal politics.

I insist, you must remove your mask and look at reality because this is not carnival.

P.S: .... Be sure that what is going on in Argentina concerning the Middle East conflict is a good example of what is going on in the whole world. This is Latin America, Third Word, like most of Asia, Africa, we are never in accordance with US imperialist policies.

Kindest regards

Daniel Pipes replies:

I don't quite know who "my" Arabs are. As any reader of mine knows, I have kept a distance from the Iraqi leadership, not to speak of the Saudi, Egyptian, et al.

As for the rest of the good professor's rant, it reveals the sad degredation of discourse in universities around the world.
