Reader comment on item: Islamists, Get Out

Submitted by Israel Lachovsky (Canada), Sep 14, 2005 at 23:09

Writing from Canada, and in a similar vein as Australia's Peter Costello, I find that there are 3 pillars to Canadian Society, that both born citizens and new citizens must subscribe to:
democracy, social-capitalism, and, for lack of a single term, support for the notion of
"live and let live". I do my thing, you do yours, provided we don't lear and threaten the other, and we don't cross the line between honest, heart-felt disapproval at an individual level, to that of daring to tell the other that he is wrong (according to our unshakeable god given rules) and that he must must change his behavior (or else) , then we should get along just fine thank you.

I suspect that Islamists will not either understand, or, if they understand, do not and will not subscribe to this last pillar. To me, this is the crux of the problem and support or not support for this pillar should make or break participation in Canadian and other Western societies.

As many of the sources quoted say, if you don't support our values, don't be here.

Thank you.
