Islam Cannot be Reformed

Reader comment on item: Can Islam Be Reformed?

Submitted by Stephen Blanton (United States), Jul 2, 2013 at 10:19

There is only one Qur'an. Muslims believe it is the divine revelation from Allah, word-for-word; that it is infallible, and that the original is preserved in Paradise. It cannot be changed, ever. It is the core of the Islamic faith.

Muslims have been fighting unceasingly for world conquest since Muhammad led his Islamic army to conquer the Arabian Peninsula. They currently have standing armies in 12 countries.

The reforms you reference are trivial compared to Allah's command for Muslims to fight until every person in every country is a Muslim, subservient to Muslims, or is dead. (8:39)

Just as you, I have hope that Muslims will become less violent. But my hope is that Muslims will abandon Islam by the hundreds of millions. In my view, this is more realistic than hoping that Islam will be re-interpreted so as to become more moderate and accepting of other cultures and faiths.
