Islam and ayat al-sayf

Reader comment on item: Can Islam Be Reformed?

Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jun 30, 2013 at 17:26

Dr Pipes

Islam cannot be reformed because as long as we have the doctrine of al-nasikh wa an mansukh and ayat al-sayf (Q9:5) that abrogates the likes of the no compulsion in religion and the likes of ayat al-jizya or Q9:29 there is no way that Islam can be reformed

We either have Islam or no islam because there is just no happy mediium

I really do believe that islam will be a thing of the past in no time just like communism because it is anti-human and anti-reason

Daniel Pipes replies:

why can't abrogation be used to reform Islam? Surely, it can be turned around in a different age.
