A note on "Democratic Islam"

Reader comment on item: A Democratic Islam?

Submitted by Mike (United States), Apr 19, 2008 at 12:49

While it took 6 centuries for Catholicism to eventually accept democracy (and in many places still hasn't), it should be noted that there were NO models until after the American Revolution. Now, Islamic countries can look to numerous democratic countries on every continent.

While perhaps not in practice but in theory, Christianity was a religion of peace, Islam is a religion that encourages the physical subjugation of others to the will of Allah. This "spread the religion by the sword" encourages powerful military leadership top accomplish this aim. Powerful generals don't want democracy.
