recidivism isn't as high as you might thing but it is high (67% was the latest stat I've seen) - owing mainly to our propensity to lock people up (especially minorities) but give no rehab programs...one might indeed expect a pattern of behavior from incarcerated individuals, but then reality can be the antithesis of expectations, no?

Clearly the stats of imigrants the US belie the characterization of the US as the Great Satan...so then therein is the beautiful point that we should not take the characterization of one or a few people and assume it the be the general perspective of a whole group...of course, it would be equally irrational to assume that imigration to Europe or the US proves the "benefice" (?) of democracy - especially since the search for democracy is not generally the motivation to imigrate...
