Rick gets it exactly right -- Egypt won't accept Gaza voluntarily

Reader comment on item: Give Gaza to Egypt
in response to reader comment: Pipes make a convincing argument, but it ain't ever gonna happen.

It may be that Israel can de facto force Egypt to accept Gaza back by uncompromisingly sealing their Gaza border and forcing Egypt to provide infrastructure, but Egypt will never voluntarily and formally reintegrate Gaza to Egypt -- at most they will "hold it in trust" for the future Palestinian state.

Obviously, as others wrote, the best thing for Israel would be to reintegrate Gaza with Egypt and the West Bank with Jordan -- but it's not going to happen.

Israel relieved its hostile neighbors of the responsibility for ruling these vermin after 1967 and neither will EVER formally take those responsibilities again.

In 1967-68 Israel probably should have concentrated on forcing the Palestinians out of Gaza with settlers and deportations with infrastructure in Sinai and fortified that straight border. Likewise it probably should have made a new fortified border based on (with adjustments) the old 1948 green line in the West Bank -- concentrating on a defensible border with as few Palestians as possible on the Israeli side.

The Palestinians are really like a disease for their fellow Arabs as well as Israel (because neither they nor their fellows will integrate them) -- they came close to deposing King Hussein in Jordan in Black September 1970 and destroyed Christian Lebanon when they went there.
