Intellectually, your position has merit. No doubt that the Christians have made errors in theology and dogma. And if Islam was simply a religion, then there would be little angst and argument. But many non Mhammedians see Islam as an exception. Not for the religion, but because of the ideology. Muhammed, too was exceptional in that he married his tribal cult of "The god" to the notion of "Expansion by the sword". This seemingly technical aspect of Islam makes it an exception. It means that Islam has an obligation to expand itself by force, to require the subjugation of non Muslims by Muslims as a dogma.

The pursuit of this dogma of Islam has developed into a 3% religion but 97% ideological political movement. The instruction of Islam is,in fact, instruction in a intrinsically disordered ideology with a religious veneer. Those who have strong objections to the infiltration if Islam into the American political experiment of self governence, believe that the animating force is not intellectual exploration, but a political agenda determined to supplant the American experiment with the doctrine of Islamic laws and customs by force and intimidation. We have seen this pattern and practice since the inception of the Muhammedic model. In more primitive times, Islam could expand with a literal sword, Today with nuclear weapons...well you get the point.
