" We don't particularly expect from India given the fact that it is a bit late in the day. But we don't expect to ask for a couple of hundred troops as an exercise in international solidarity, and be told 'we'll only help if the UN tell us too' and the receive criticism for not bypassing the UN ad coming to India's aid in such matters"

Exactly! a couple of hundred troops is just an exercise in international solidarity. As our hands are full fighting our own war on terror. I am sorry but 'absurdity' is written all over your statement "As questionable as their motives may be the Pakistani's have provided us with considerable more assistance in the 'war on terror' than India has and was an ally during the Cold War. We can hardly be expected to turn on them. If they're such a threat why don't you deal with them?"

Yeah, Take a few hundred million dollars from US and hand over a 'DREADED TERRORIST". Yet stage manage a "MAJOR ASSAULT" on the Taliban and make a splash when Musharraf makes his periodic visits to the US for the dole. Pay more millions. In short, milk the US for all it's worth. How can India hand over your wanted terrorists when they are all in your ally's backyard and given all the protection in Pakistan. It's only Pakistan that can 'help' you in your war on terror. India cannot for the simple reason there are no 9/11, 7/7 or any terrorists hiding in it's backyard.

I will try to send you some info on the entire indo-pak 'conflict' on Kashmir though there is no point responding anymore to your questions on this particular topic. After all you think just like say a Bush or Blair and its naive of me to to expect you to look at the whole scenario objectively.
