Nice theory - shame about the facts!

Very flawed logic. Despite their proximity to northern Africa Spain actually has one of the smallest Muslim populations in Western Europe (estimated at 2.5% according to the CIA). Italy's Muslim population is even smaller at 1.7%. This compares with 3% in Denmark (Protestant), 4% in Sweden (Protestant) and 3.7% in Germany (Protestant). Excluding France, which can hardly regard itself as Catholic any more, despite that being the largest faith group - with Islam in 2nd place) that makes your logic literally 'backwards' as regards Catholic and Protestant sympathies.

As for religious revivals it seems clear that Christian Fundamentalism is the next big threat to deal with after Islam has been consigned to the dustbin of history. Having anybody who believes in the possibility of a 'Rapture' or '2nd Coming' is just as terrifying a prospect as having an Ahmadinejad and his belief in the return of the Hidden Imam is!
