Reader comment on item: Piggybacking on Terror

Submitted by John Schwartz (Germany), Aug 30, 2006 at 03:46

This article reluctantly shows the power of militant Islam in helping lawful Islam promote its agenda. Still the fact that 72% of British subjects now accept the Islamist view that Mr. Blair's "backing for action in Iraq and Afghanistan" has made Britain more of a target for terrorists is unfortuneately true. And, this is the crux of the entire issue.

I am pro-Blair also, but agree fully with this statement, and I submit that you do also, Mr. Pipes. The question is, how can politicians navigate the narrow channel fighting Islamism abroad while maintaining internal security at home? This is the issue of the next 25 yeas, in my opinion. And, although it has hit England first, it is bound to hit American shores in the near future. I am very happy, and yet also very surprised, that we have not had a rash of suicide bombers in the States. The way I look at history, we have been very lucky so far.
