Reader comment on item: The Snipers: Crazy or Jihadis?

Submitted by mommydoc (United States), Oct 29, 2002 at 12:22

This article pretty much says it all. Sure, all of the oh-so-PC "root causes" could be why he joined the Nation of Islam and bought into "jihad", but he knew exactly what he was doing, planned very carefully and it's very consistent with the concept of jihad.

And as far as American Muslims being patriotic, yes, it IS important. Patriotism isn't the same as jingoism, and in THIS country, we have the right to criticize the actions of our elected officials, and vote them out of office, unlike in many others. The rights and opportunities here are at least as great as any other nation, and it's a reason to love this country and want to protect it.

If it's so bad here, one is always welcome to go elsewhere, where it's better. And yes, when a significant number of one's co-religionists are physically attacking this country and actively funding both the terrorists and their religious institutions in this country, it's high time to demonstrate loyalty in word and deed, or one can't complain about being under suspicion.
