Militant Muslims by definition cannot be patrioticReader comment on item: The Snipers: Crazy or Jihadis? Submitted by Imran Khan (United States), Oct 29, 2002 at 11:58 Dr. Pipes, you see the threat of militant islamists more clearly than most. However you cannot bring yourself to bridge the last step: A militant Muslim by definition cannot be patriotic to any ideology other than Islam, and hence a Muslim citizen of America cannot in the final analysis be either loyal or patriotic to the American Constitution. The earlier post by Nadir Ahemad says it clearly: Patriotism and honest opposition to Govt. policy is confused in the muslim mind. It is not that opposing US policy on Israel constitutes being unpatriotic, but supporting the Palestinian Cause or any other Islamic cause is considered more important than being patriotic to America. Americans ignore the growth of this danger amongst them at their own peril.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Daniel Pipes replies: I have no problem saying it: An Islamist usually has no allegiance to any ideology other than Islamism.DP Comment on this item
